Wired Ethernet with DHCP

Interdisciplinary Excellence Built on World-Class Knowledge

The normal setup for portable computing devices is to have wired IP addresses, and other needed network parameters, assigned dynamically by the network. The system for doing this uses Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). On the WSU Pullman campus your computer no longer needs to be registered to have the DHCP server recognize it and assign it an IP address. If your computer will be in a static location and you will need to access it remotely, you will want to assign a fixed IP address, and not use DHCP.

Not all the jacks on campus are connected to active network devices. You may use the ITS repair request to locate active network ports in a room.

For MME faculty and students, if you need a network cable, see Michael Shook in ETRL 203.
